Conquest

The vocabulary campaign: five real rail networks, stations, and service classes.

2 min read

On this page
Conquest turns a whole JLPT level into a real Japanese rail network. Ride the Yamanote ring at N5, go under it on the Ginza Line at N4, cross to Kansai at N3, walk the five Edo highways at N2, and finish with the whole Shinkansen network at N1.

Every station on the map is a real one, written in kanji, kana and romaji, and holds a band of the level's words. Clearing a station stamps it, and the line inks itself as far as you have ridden.

Accuracy sets your service class

  1. 60% or better clears the station at the Local grade (1 star).
  2. 80% or better upgrades the ride to Rapid (2 stars).
  3. 95% or better earns the Limited Express (3 stars). Your best grade is kept, so a weaker replay never costs you anything.

Accuracy counts the whole station

This is the rule that surprises everyone. Conquest scores you against the station's entire word band, so every question you never reached counts as wrong. Quitting early cannot protect your grade, unlike a normal drill where only what you answered is scored.

How the network opens

A station opens when you have cleared any neighbouring station on the line. Rings open in both directions, and the five highways of the N2 map all start together. Free accounts ride the first 8 stations of the Yamanote; the rest of the ring stays visible but locked.

Milestones pay once, and outside the daily cap

Each milestone above is paid a single time in your account's life, and it is exempt from the 300 XP daily drill cap. Your stamps also survive a downgrade: the map re-locks, but nothing you earned is erased.
