How assessments and timed exams work.

Assessments confirm you are ready before a track moves you forward.
Most units end with a short assessment. Some tracks also have a timed exam that acts as a checkpoint you must pass to continue.
- Finish the units to unlock the assessment.
- A timed exam runs against the clock, so give it your full attention.
- Reach the pass mark to clear the checkpoint. You can try again if you miss it.
The server holds one window for the whole sitting, worked out from the question count plus a little slack. It is not a per-question timer, so time you save early carries forward to a harder question later.
A timed exam does not save drafts
Leaving and returning restarts the clock rather than resuming it, and nothing you typed is kept. If the window runs out the attempt ends and you simply take it again, with no penalty beyond the retry.
Test-out is the shortcut nobody notices
Some units offer a test-out: pass it once and the entire unit is marked complete without working through its lessons. On the Foundation track, passing the kana exam can clear the whole track in a few minutes if you already read kana.
A timed exam is one focused sitting. Find a quiet moment before you start it.
