As a Murid you are in exactly one class at a time. It keeps things simple.
The limit is on being a student
One active student membership at a time is the whole rule. It says nothing about teaching: a verified Sensei can run several classes and still be a student in someone else's.
A pending join request counts as taking your slot. If a second class refuses you, check for a request you sent and forgot about, and cancel it first.
Leaving ends the membership and detaches your assignment records from that class roster. The records themselves stay attached to your account, so nothing you did is deleted, but rejoining later starts you as a fresh member rather than restoring the old row.
Your learning is never class property
No classroom action, not leaving, not being removed, not the class being deleted, can touch your cards, lessons, XP, or streak. Those belong to your account, not to the class.
